Welcome to the Bridgwater Education Trust.
In June 2008 the Bridgwater Education Trust (BET) was formed. The Bridgwater schools and partner organisations that form the Trust are
Chilton Trinity Technology College, East Bridgwater Community School,
Elmwood School, Haygrove School,
Penrose School, Robert Blake Science College,
Somerset County Council, Sedgemoor District Council and
Bridgwater College.
To form the BET legally, each of the above schools had to change their status from a community
school to a foundation school. This means that the Bridgwater schools now have agreed to take back some of the
responsibilities previously held by Somerset County Council.
The Trust is responsible for the land and the recruiting of Foundation Governors
to the schools governing bodies. The Trust schools will manage their own assets, employ their own staff, set their own admissions arrangements
within the statutory Admissions Code and choose which partners to work with.
More information on Responsibilities
The Trust will facilitate and promote collaboration between the schools. It will support the development work to promote school improvements across Bridgwater.
This formalised collaborative approach will enable a diverse curriculum to be agreed across the town, and result in greater opportunities for
students. More information on Collaboration
The Mission Statement
Bridgwater Education Trust will engage in activities that advance the education of pupils in the Trust schools to access
improved life chances and facilitate community cohesion.

Raising Standards
Standards in Bridgwater schools are improving. The results in 2009 were the best ever, however raw
performance data shows that three of the four Bridgwater secondary schools fall below the national
average in some areas. The schools are not complacent and are extremely focused in raising educational
standards. The key to this is raising aspirations of all parties involved including learners, parents and
the community at large. More information on Raising Standards
Best Practice
The Trust will develop a programme to ensure that good practice is shared.
It will use outstanding resources to support schools where needed and to support specialist areas. More information on Best Practice
Educational Advancement
The Trust will work with the schools to support them achieving their school targets as
identified by their school improvement plan. More information on Educational Advancement
Community Cohesion
The Trust will work with the community at all levels to promote life long learning.
It will partner with other organisations to promote community cohesion. More information on Community Cohesion
Inclusion
It is the explicit aim of the Trust to ensure that the learning community of Bridgwater has inclusion
at the centre of all planning for the future. It is our goal to enable children and young people across
the town to learn in a way that suits their way of learning, in a variety of schools. More information on Inclusion
